History

The Peoria Diamond Club was established in 1993 in response to the desire of the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, and City of Peoria, to partner with a non-profit organization in the operation of Spring Training. In exchange for providing the necessary workforce, the PDC shares in revenues generated through a variety of functions. These revenues are then redistributed to local community youth organizations through a grant program. When Peoria Sports Complex opened in 1994, the PDC consisted of about 90 volunteers, and at the conclusion of its first season awarded $7000 in grants to two organizations. Today the PDC boasts nearly 500 volunteer members, and following the 2009 Spring Training season awarded nearly $140,000 to over 40 organizations, impacting thousands of children throughout western Maricopa County.
